THE TOPIC:  Class Description: 
Attendees will be made aware of the different types of abuse and how they apply to
the dental arena. Learn the warning signs that may indicate abuse and neglect, and
discuss common injuries associated with maltreatment. The resources to help
identify injuries indicative of abuse will also be discussed. As mandated reporters,
attendees will learn how and what to report, as well as why child and elder
maltreatment is a public health problem and how it affects the health of their patients.

Learning Objectives: 
Recognize the early warning signs of abuse and neglect.
Identify injuries that are indicators of abuse and neglect. 
Understand your role and responsibilities as a dental professional in reporting
abuse.

THE SPEAKER:  Peter D. Banks is an honors graduate from the American University
in Washington, D.C. and is the former Director of Training and Outreach at the National
Center for Missing & Exploited Children.  Among Mr. Banks’ responsibilities as the
Director of Training and Outreach was to oversee the Jimmy Ryce Law Enforcement
Training Center in Alexandria, Virginia and the Polessini Law Enforcement Training
Center in Rochester, New York where thousands of law enforcement officers,
prosecutors and other professionals committed to protecting children are trained.
This included working with victims and victim families.

Prior to joining the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Mr. Banks held the
rank of Detective Sergeant with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington,
D.C. until his retirement in 1991.  During his twenty-three year career he served
thirteen years as an investigator and four years as the Child Abuse Unit’s supervisor. 
He has extensive investigative experience investigating missing persons cases and in
 both civil and criminal allegations of physical and sexual child abuse. He trains both
nationally and internationally. Mr. Banks also takes an active role in child and teen
safety on the information highway.  He has overseen the development and
implementation of educational programs designed to assist law enforcement officers
and prosecutors in the investigation of technology facilitated crimes against children.

Auxiliaries, or Students in your practice.  You will be asked for the names of all
attendees and can pay using a credit card.  PLEASE PRINT YOUR TICKETS
AND BRING THEM WITH YOU ON THE NIGHT OF THE COURSE.  REFUNDS
WILL NOT BE MADE AVAILABLE AFTER APRIL 6, 2017.

Regular registration runs through March 29th at the following rates:

Doctor - $53                            Auxiliary - $37                        Student - $27

Late registration runs from March 30th through April 5th at the following
rates:

Doctor - $58                            Auxiliary - $43                        Student - $32

NO REGISTRATION WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER APRIL 5th.  There is no
registration at the door.
